data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since its launch, I have been using the HERO13 for all my videos, while waiting to switch to the new Mission 1 Pro as soon as it becomes available. I always mount at least two on the handle support, often adding a third for the comparative tests I publish on this site. For POV (Point of View) shots, which I particularly love and that characterize my style, I still use a HERO12 mounted on the \u201cChesty\u201d. When conditions allow, I choose to dedicate a HERO13 exclusively to shots out of the water. My workdays are extremely frantic and the pace is tight: one can pass in a few moments from snorkeling with dolphins to a deep dive, then landing on a deserted beach. In this incessant succession of scenarios, having to constantly insert or remove the camera from the underwater housing, change supports and reconfigure GoPro Labs parameters is a luxury I cannot afford. However, starting from the HERO11, the 8:7 sensor and 10-bit color already guarantee excellent results. In particular, the almost square 8:7 format captures a very wide portion of the scene, offering incredible versatility during editing by allowing clips to be cropped vertically for social media or horizontally for YouTube without losing quality. When choosing, it is also essential to consider the advantage offered by the new GoPro Labs functions specific to diving, which operate optimally only on the latest models (HERO12 and HERO13). Notable among these are stabilization optimized for the aquatic environment and the ability to manage red channel intensity based on depth, as detailed in the dedicated sections. Nevertheless, the HERO13 represents a significant leap forward compared to the 12; the differences emerge especially when using color profiles like Log or Flat (which require dedicated post-production) or specific GoPro Labs diving settings. The longer battery life and superior preset customization lead me to always recommend purchasing the HERO13 as the ultimate To maximize the charge duration, it is essential to deactivate functions that remain completely unused once below the surface, such as GPS, Wi-Fi, and voice commands. Since water shields and absorbs radio signals, these modules, if left active, consume energy needlessly in an attempt to establish an impossible connection. While the GoPro was connected directly to a USB outlet via a USB-C cable, in less than an hour the connector literally melted, triggering a fire. Only her immediate presence prevented the flames from spreading, which would have led to untold consequences in a critical scenario such as,&nbsp;for example, a boat. This episode highlights two crucial points. The first, and most important, concerns our safety: you should never leave equipment charging unattended. An electrical malfunction can turn into an uncontrollable fire in just a few minutes, no matter where you are. The second concerns the risk to the equipment: in the event of a malfunction during internal charging, you don&#8217;t just lose the battery, but the entire camera. For this reason, I strongly recommend using an external battery charger and only charging when you are present and able to intervene promptly, or by using the designated charging areas typically found pole, the Chesty has become over time a distinctive element of my style, allowing me to show the movement of the filming itself and making the viewer part of the action. Despite the great aesthetic value for POV shots, stability is not always optimal and it is difficult to control the framing with precision: from experience, I recommend pointing the camera slightly higher than seems necessary, as the natural tendency is to crop the top part of the image. Another critical aspect is managing the power-on; not having the screen easily visible, it is essential to rely on the audio signals (beep) and always do a double check to be certain that recording has started. To optimize the system, I use a 60 mm ball joint extension and a Flat Load Adapter: this combination guarantees me the flexibility for unique angles such as, for example, water entry or climbing the The image quality is surprising, especially on the lateral edges where quality loss is usually found. In shots of coral reefs, wrecks, and close-ups of &#8220;static&#8221; subjects (such as, for example, anemones or stonefish), this lens has no equal and can truly make the difference.<\/p><p>There are, however, some downsides. In shots of pelagics, or animals that stay distant, the lens tends to &#8220;push&#8221; the subject too far away. Shooting in 5.3K allows for cropping in post-production, but if the recording is made in low light or at great depths, video noise can become critical. In anticipation of encounters in the blue, I therefore recommend using a second GoPro or equipping the base with a lens holder (like the one from the Japanese INON) that I have positioned on a handle.<\/p><p>Another limitation concerns shots at the water&#8217;s surface, for example the divers&#8217; entry: water droplets will inevitably remain on the lens with the risk of ruining the footage. After entering the water, one must also pay attention to air bubbles that almost always get trapped between the housing and the lens. They usually vanish after a few minutes but, if you film immediately, the clips will be ruined, as happened in the video with the Lion Fish in Hurghada. To remove them, simply unscrew and rescrew the lens, an operation to be done with extreme care to avoid losing the lens in the blue.<\/p><p>Finally, the bulk and weight (330 g on land, 170 g in water) can be inconvenient for those using the extension pole. With a dedicated underwater lens like the AOI-UW 03, however, the refraction is already physically compensated by the optics themselves. The lens restores a behavior very similar to that in air, correcting the field angle and distortion before the light reaches the sensor. In this case, also activating DIVE means applying a double compensation, with the risk of slightly altering the stabilization or the geometry of the image. Although it can be difficult to find a stable surface to place it on, especially in the presence of current, it is a fundamental tool for capturing clips that are impossible to achieve handheld. The flexible legs allow it to wrap around rocks or pipes, ensuring a steady grip even on uneven underwater terrain. I used it, for example, for filming the very shy garden eels (<em>Heteroconger hassi<\/em>) in the Maldives, where the only way to film them is to position the camera and patiently move away. It was also useful for full-body &#8220;selfie&#8221; shots, where I wanted to show the entire movement of the finning stroke. For transport, I equipped it with an eyelet (1\/4\u2033 male thread) to which I attached a mountaineering carabiner. My operational choice falls on the SanDisk Extreme PRO 64 GB with V30, U3, and A2 specifications. I use the 64 GB size because, during a single dive, it is difficult to exhaust this memory capacity; I therefore prefer to restart with a clean card for every water entry. In this way, should a card malfunction or flooding occur, the recordings from previous dives remain safe. I consider Lexar Silver Plus and Samsung Pro Ultimate as valid alternatives.
